My teenage daughter's JW ex-boyfriend was giving her a rough time on MSN lately about how much she likes trendy clothes. He doesn't pay for them, I don't know why he is complaining. She was getting quite annoyed with him, and I don't think has even spoken to him since. Not hard to trace where his little mind gets his ideas.
i haven't to a meeting in about 2 or so months and tonight one of the local elders came to visit me.. he goes on about, how he and the hall misses me and loves me.
and they want to go back to the meetings, "it must be a teenager thing, everyone went thru it, but i know that you will be back.
" i was thinking to myself, you don't know that i'll be back, and i don't plan on it either.

It sounds like you kept your cool, even when the elder was pretty darn annoying. That take a lot of self control. Good job.
Just stay low key, just like you are doing. You have a lot of years till you are able to leave home, so trying to keep your relationship with your parents reasonable is smart.

well, i told my parent that i didn't want to be a jw (having not gone to meetings for many years) and it went pretty well.
i even disproved watchtower doctrines, but of course i was the one who was mistaken.. i aslo said that i would be going to other churches... i didn't specify because i didn't want to see the reaction to catholic.
i also signed up to start the process to become catholic (unlike the jw's you can just learn about the faith without any obligation or harrassment) i went down to st. francis de sales church and i signed up for the rcia program.

i looked up my student bill on the web today to see how much money i was getting back from the school to buy books and school clothes.
well, turns out, one of my loans didn't come through, leaving me with a large debt, rather than surplus.. i call up the financial office to find out the problem, my parents made to much money this year and i did not qualify.
well, my parents have no part in my education, especially financially, since they kicked me out of their house.
Talk to the registrar's office or the bursars's office and ask them. I had a similar thing happen to me, a very long time ago (over 25 years). My father would have had to sign a form, saying that he refused to support me and that I was independent.
Interestingly enough, I only had one year left and tuition was much lower, and I really didn't need much, so he coughed up some money. He was too embarrassed that someone at the university might find out he wouldn't support his kid.
We were never JWs, he had just been married too many times.
something has been bothering me as of late.
my younger brother, who is 17 years old plans on getting married right after he turns 18 this upcoming year.
i have quite a few problems with this, but he thinks that he knows it all at his age.. i'm concerned for several reasons.
I wonder if, as more JW kids go on to higher education, they will also marry later.
Most ordinary kids in university wait till they are finished at least their first degree before thinking of marriage. A lot depends on finances, of course.
if you've left all your family and friends for "the truth" and then you realize how everything you did was for nothing, how do you just go back, especially, if it's been 25 years???
my wife is going thru this dillema right now.
my daughter just went to a family member's birthday party for the 1st time yesterday and my wife feels as though she is unable to be involved because "what will the family think of her after all the birthdays and celebrations" she missed?

They will be thrilled she is back. She was in a cult and is free now, and they will be happy for her. This sounds like she is "out" now, and I am so happy for both of you.

There is a follow up story in the Edmonton Journal today, but I have no idea how to post it. I have scanned it, so I will send it to anyone who can post it on the forum, or who is just interested.
The implications of this case can completely undo all the good that Bethany Hughes' case did.
Note that the girl has parents of 2 religions, so it would be much harder to prove that she was so indoctrinated into the witness that she didn't understnd the implications of her decision.
I have a bad feeling about all of this.
